The United Methodist Women participate in a national reading program designed to encourage critical thinking about other cultures and issues Christians face every day. Subjects range from the prison system to daily devotionals to books highlighting Christian personalities and describing global missions. There is a list of books which qualify for the program in the church Resource Center, most of which are also available from Amazon and your local library. Many are even available on CD.
The program offers books for adults and children. There are five levels of participation to choose from. To qualify in one of the levels, each reader/listener may peruse four books, ten books, fifteen books or twenty books, along with Response magazine. The books must be selected evenly from five categories which are clearly marked in the books and on the library shelves.
Many of the books may be found on the shelves immediately to your right as you enter the Resource Center. Response and Outlook magazines are located just under the books. As you complete a book from each category, be sure to notify Pat Shepard at edmontpas(at)aol.com or leave a voice mail message at (810)629-2132 ext. 171. If you read a book to your child or grandchild, both you and the child may count it.
